Helping Improve Commercial Properties
The DDA's Commercial Rehabilitation Rebate Program (CRRP) offers rebates for businesses within the DDA which make eligible improvements to commercial building exteriors, signs and landscaping. Owners or tenants making such improvements may qualify for a 50% rebate—up to $50,000 per location. When a car collided with the sign in front of his business on Holt Road, Dr. Walter Kittle of Chiro-Technology, P.C., looked to the DDA and CRRP for assistance. "Aside from patient and doctor referrals, signage is the second best source of referrals for my business," Dr. Kittle says. "Replacing it was very important."
Dr. Kittle obtained the required two quotes for a new sign and submitted them to the DDA. Upon approval by the DDA Beautification Committee, the sign was installed. Dr. Kittle submitted the paid invoices to the DDA, and within a short time received a rebate check.
"I very much appreciate the Downtown Development Authority's help," he said. "If it were not for them, we could not have done such a nice sign. It's an excellent opportunity and I would like other business people to take advantage of it."

Holt Courtyards, with its brick shops and walkways, and prominent Victorian-style outdoor clock, is a charming retail center at the corner of Holt Road and Cedar Street. The Courtyards bring an upscale appeal to the central downtown area, while echoing the charm of the older neighboring structures.
True to its name, Holt Courtyards comprises a variety of shops situated around a central courtyard and parking area. Store entrances open off the courtyard, while the streetside facades are unified by large, arched windows.
During the warmer months, attractive outdoor plantings enhance the Courtyards, while colorful new banners—another beautification project undertaken by the DDA—now grace the lampposts in the Courtyards and throughout the downtown area.

Ron Kitsmiller, owner of Kitsmiller RV, also benefited from the CRRP when he expanded his business. Ron purchased 5 acres of land behind his site, and, with help from DDA Executive Director Al McFadyen, Township Supervisor Stuart Goodrich, Township Engineer Bob Scheuerman, Township Manager John Elsinga, and Rob Lewis of Timberland Real Estate Services, began extensive expansion and renovation. "If it wasn't for these people, I don’t know what I would have done," Ron says.
Renovations included the construction of an improved display area, more and better customer parking, as well as renovation of the office space, and expansion of the service and parts departments.

RSDC operates the largest distribution facility for automotive steel in North America.
To meet the demands of its customers, RSDC of Michigan has the ability to handle more than a million tons of steel each year. This requires receiving and processing steel coils 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at the 600,000 square foot facility. Once complete, the product is shipped on a just-in-time basis to customers such as automotive stamping plants, to become a roof, door, or hood of a vehicle. By efficiently producing a very high-quality product, the company has been able to expand beyond Michigan and now ships to locations in Missouri, Louisiana and Canada.
RSDC of Michigan employs approximately 350 people—an increase of nearly 100 employees since 2000—making it one of the largest employers in Delhi Township. Here since 1999, credit for its success is given to its employees, suppliers and the surrounding community.
"The vision and efforts of the Delhi Township DDA, trustees and community development staff were critical to our decision to locate here," says Don Patterson, RSDC's administrative manager. "However, it didn't end there—they continue to be an integral part of helping the RSDC get things done. In my opinion, the DDA plays a critical role in making sure we are aware of how the process works and how to connect with the right people."
